Learn about the heart behind Bundles of Brave and our mission to bring joy to children in need
Bundles of Brave was founded by writer Kimberly Gatto. Kim spent a lot of time in and out of hospitals in her toddler years as she battled a kidney problem that was difficult to diagnose. When she was four years old, Kim received life-saving surgery at the Floating Hospital for Children (now Tufts Medical Center) on Good Friday, which meant that she would spend Easter in the hospital.
"While the staff was always kind and tried to cheer me up, I can still remember feeling sad and alone in my hospital room. My parents were only allowed for short visits, and it was scary for me, being so little and so sick. I can still remember the faces of some of the other children who were there, many of whom were being treated for cancer. We wanted to be at home - eating candy and searching for Easter eggs with our siblings – but instead we were stuck at the hospital."
Years later, Kim wanted to find a way to give back. She began making goodie bags for children at various holidays and bringing them to Boston area hospitals. "I was using my own money, so I could only do them on a small scale," she said. "Then the pandemic hit, and the hospitals were not able to accept anything, so the project was put on hold."

After losing her mom, Ann, in November 2024, Kim wanted to somehow honor her mother's memory – and Bundles of Brave was born. Since then, it has been expanding through the generosity of her employer and many folks – both friends and strangers – who have helped with items or assisted in assembling the bags.
"God saved my life, and now I feel that He is guiding this project."
Each bundle is made with the same love and care that Ann showed Kim throughout her life. Through Bundles of Brave, Ann’s spirit of kindness and compassion lives on, bringing comfort to children who need it most.
Every child deserves to feel brave, loved, and special. Join our growing network of kindness.
